The police in Taraba State have confirmed that 10 people died when gunmen attacked Binnari community in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area. Local sources also reported that houses were burnt and food supplies were destroyed during the attack.

The attack happened in the early hours of Friday in Amar Ward, Karim II Constituency, according to local sources.

Victor Mshelizah, the police spokesperson in the state, confirmed the killings. He said security personnel had been sent to the affected community.

"There was an incident that happened yesterday, an attack by unknown gunmen that claimed the lives of ten people. We currently have men deployed there," Mr Mshelizah said.

The police did not give more details about what led to the attack or who the attackers were. However, local sources believe the gunmen came from nearby Plateau State. They reportedly entered the community unexpectedly, killing residents and setting houses on fire.

According to the sources, the attackers also destroyed food items worth millions of naira, leaving many residents to face great losses.

The attack caused many residents to flee their homes and seek safety in nearby communities. Some people are also said to be missing after the incident.

The sources added that residents called for help during the attack, but security forces arrived too late to stop the killings and destruction.

This incident has raised fears about insecurity in Karim-Lamido. Residents are urging the Taraba State Government and security agencies to improve safety measures and prevent future attacks.

The police have not yet shared more information about the attack, including details about the property damage and missing individuals.
