FIFA has shared the latest goalkeeper rankings for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Cabo Verde’s captain Vozinha and South Africa’s skipper Ronwen Williams have stood out after the group stage.
The rankings, released on Wednesday and powered by Aramco, rank goalkeepers based on two main areas. The first area is In Possession, which looks at how goalkeepers contribute to build-up play, passing, and distribution. The second area is Defending the Goal, which assesses shot-stopping, goal prevention, and other defensive actions.
Paraguay’s Orlando Gill leads the overall defensive rankings after his impressive performances, including saving penalties against Germany in the Round of 32. Vozinha and Williams also made it to the list of the tournament’s best.
Vozinha topped the In Possession category with a rating of 8.03. He completed 91 out of 130 passes and made 34 successful line breaks during the group stage. He also came in eighth in the Defending the Goal category with a score of 7.33, making nine saves from 11 shots on target and helping Cabo Verde to concede only two goals.
Williams came in second in the In Possession rankings with a score of 7.64. He completed 102 of 151 passes, had 24 successful line breaks, and made 16 passes that went beyond the opposition. The South Africa captain made six saves during the group stage. He continued his good performance in the Round of 32 against Canada. FIFA noted he had 92 touches and completed 85 passes, the highest by any goalkeeper in a World Cup match since 1966.
In the Defending the Goal category, Switzerland’s Gregor Kobel took second place behind Gill. He made 11 saves from 13 shots faced and helped his team finish top of Group B. Iran’s goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand came in third for defensive performances, while Norway’s Orjan Nyland finished third in the possession rankings.
