35-Year-Old DLA Candidate Aims to Be Nigeria's Youngest President in 2027

The candidate for the Democratic Leadership Alliance, Moses Adebisi, has stated he will be Nigeria's youngest president if he wins the 2027 general election.

Adebisi, who is 35 years old and studying for a PhD at Harvard University in the United States, shared his plans during an interview with Arise TV on Thursday.

He explained that his decision to run for president came from a wish to change Nigeria's political path. He mentioned that many Nigerians encouraged him to move from his empowerment work into a direct political role.

"The presidential candidate of the DLA is the youngest presidential candidate or the incoming president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the youngest," he declared.

Adebisi is pursuing a PhD in Government, Political Thought and History. He believes that understanding political success and national change motivated his entry into the presidential race.

He stated, "As a 35-year-old Harvard PhD candidate in the United States of America, I in the Department of Government, Political Thought and History, I decided to pick this responsibility that was brought to me because it was even not part of the agenda before."

His past work often focused on empowering low-income women and young people in Nigeria. He also recalled running a digital literacy campaign aimed at helping students after the Federal Government started using computer-based tests for Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board exams.

Adebisi’s team provided computers and volunteers to communities across Osun, Ekiti, Oyo, the South-West, North-Central, and the Federal Capital Territory to train secondary school students.

However, he said he felt pushed to enter politics after realizing that his work outside politics could not fully fix the country’s issues.

"They beckon on me that you can’t stay in America and think you’re solving the Nigeria’s problem," he reflected.

The DLA candidate mentioned that he traveled to China to study its economic reforms, focusing on the 1978 changes. He visited cities like Beijing and Shanghai.

He also looked into the liberty agenda of the United States to learn about the political and economic factors that shaped that country.

Adebisi feels prepared to lead Nigeria and believes he can beat President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 election.

"The ship and the chariot of the oppressors is about to sink in this country. As I, this, this, Moses, as people usually call me, is the only person that has the capacity to defeat the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led APC government come 2027 in Nigeria," he stated.

He claimed that the DLA has used what he calls a "submarine approach" to build its political structure without drawing too much attention.

"We have used our submarine approach to get into the system. They never see us coming, including yourself. Nobody saw us coming at all, but we have come anyway," he pointed out.

Adebisi also claimed that the DLA is the only political party registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission between 2022 and 2026, even though 171 other political groups sought registration during that time.

He said the party’s strategies and grassroots connections will be key for the 2027 election, aiming to bring what he called liberty to Nigerians.

The candidate urged Nigerian youths to join his political movement, saying it is time for them to actively shape the country's future.
