The Oyo State Police have arrested a 45-year-old man named Adeniyi Benjamin. He is accused of running an unlicensed medical facility and providing medical services without proper qualifications in Ibadan.

Benjamin was caught on October 2 at Life Is Good Hospital in the Olodo area. Police operatives from the command’s Monitoring Unit acted on tips about his illegal activities.

This information came from a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.

The police reported that Benjamin was treating patients and giving treatments, especially for fertility issues, even though he is not a qualified doctor.

They seized several items from the hospital, including two weighing scales, four Quantum Magnetic Resonance Body Analysers, a stethoscope, a box of different medicines, and specimen bottles.

In a preliminary investigation, the suspect admitted that he had been practicing as a quack for around seven years. The statement said, "During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to have been operating as a quack practitioner for about seven years and stated that he had been doing so despite not being a medical doctor and without possessing any licence whatsoever to practise medicine."

He also mentioned that he focused on fertility treatments, which he had been providing to patients at the facility.

Olayinka expressed concern about the dangers that unqualified practitioners pose to the public, especially in sensitive areas like fertility care.

The police urged residents to check the qualifications and registration status of anyone offering medical services before receiving treatment from them.

They also asked the public to report any suspicious medical facilities or individuals claiming to be doctors without proper credentials to the police or relevant regulatory bodies.

The PPRO noted that investigations are still ongoing. They want to find out the full extent of Benjamin's activities and see if anyone else was involved in running the facility.

He assured that appropriate actions would be taken according to the law.
