The African Action Congress has set up its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election. They plan to step up efforts to mobilise support for their presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and his running mate, Haruna Magashi.

The party shared this news in a statement on Friday. The statement was signed by Samuel Ajeigbe, the Acting National Chairman, and Oshiokhue Phillip Ikpeminoghena, the National Secretary.

The statement said this inauguration is a key move in the party’s plans to get Nigerians ready for the upcoming presidential election in 2027.

It also mentioned that the council will manage campaign activities in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The team includes political strategists, organisers, policy advocates, media experts, digital campaigners, election specialists, legal professionals, and finance personnel.

Abdullahi Usman will lead the council as Director-General. He will have deputies in charge of Strategy and Political Affairs, and Diaspora and Resource Mobilisation. Juwon Sanyaolu will be the Campaign Council Secretary.

The party has set up 10 national directorates to handle various tasks. These include strategy and policy, grassroots mobilisation, labour and civil society engagement, publicity and communications, digital media, data and technology, election operations, finance, legal and compliance, and administration and field operations.

At the grassroots level, the campaign will reach out through state, local government, ward, and polling-unit coordinators. They will also have a network of volunteers, canvassers, polling agents, and supporters.

The AAC mentioned that its mobilisation efforts have greatly benefited from the SOWORENOW application. They described this app as a key digital tool for organising supporters and managing campaign activities.

“The Presidential Campaign Council is not a replacement for this digital mobilisation infrastructure; rather, it is designed to upscale, deepen and expand it,” the statement said.

According to the party, the council will mix digital tools with physical organisation. This approach aims to widen the campaign’s reach and strengthen its presence in communities across the country.

“The Council will combine the power of technology with physical grassroots organisation, political coordination and community-level mobilisation to ensure that the Sowore, Magashi campaign reaches Nigerians in every part of the country,” it added.

The party plans to spread its message beyond major cities and state capitals to rural areas and polling units as part of its election preparations.

“The 2027 election is not merely about changing the occupant of Aso Rock; it is about changing the political direction of Nigeria,” the statement said.

It added that the party believes the current political system has let Nigerians down. Their campaign will focus on reaching voters directly.

“As the old political order continues to fail Nigerians, the AAC is taking its message directly to the people, from the cities to the rural communities, from state capitals to the polling units,” the statement read.

The party called this inauguration the start of a stronger national mobilisation. They urged Nigerians who want a new political direction to join their effort.

“We call on Nigerians who believe that Nigeria can and must be different to join us,” the statement said.

“The task of taking back our country cannot be left to politicians alone; it requires the active participation of the People,” it added.
