Accord Party has rejected the Federal High Court’s decision to de-register five political parties. The party called the ruling a travesty of justice.
Maxwell Mgbudem, the National Chairman of Accord, made this known in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
Mgbudem mentioned that the judgement came despite a Court of Appeal order telling the lower court to hold off on the case.
He said the Federal High Court went ahead with its judgement even though the appellate court had already given a directive. This raised concerns about following the right legal process.
“It is curious that the Federal High Court would proceed to deliver judgment on a matter before the Court of Appeal,” he noted.
Mgbudem argued that the judgement was part of the actions covered by the appellate court’s stay order. He insisted that courts must respect valid judicial orders.
The party stated it would challenge the ruling. Their legal team has already started the process to overturn the judgement.
“Accord will challenge the contentious judgement delivered in disobedience of the appellate court order,” he said.
The party also pointed out that it should not have been affected by the case brought by the National Forum of Former Legislators.
Accord believes it meets all constitutional and electoral requirements to stay registered. The party has won two councillorship seats in Jigawa.
They assured their members, candidates, and supporters that they would remain on the ballot for upcoming elections in the country.
The party expressed confidence about taking part in the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections, as well as the 2027 general elections.
Mgbudem said preparations for the 2027 polls were on track. This includes plans to launch the Imole campaign in Osun State.
“The attempt to distract our great party by anti-democratic forces has failed and will continue to fail,” he stated.
He reaffirmed the party's commitment to upholding the rule of law, constitutional governance, and promoting a strong multiparty democracy.
Mgbudem added that the party would continue to push for good governance, economic growth, national security, and compassionate leadership.
He encouraged members and supporters to stay united and focused on the party’s vision for national development and democratic progress.
