The Elders of the All Progressives Congress from Adamawa State Central Senatorial Zone have warned that President Bola Tinubu might lose the 2027 presidential election in the state if the issue of candidate imposition is not sorted out.

Mohammed Jimeta, the spokesperson for the elders, made this known during a press conference on Thursday in Yola.

Jimeta mentioned that the setback faced by the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 due to candidate imposition could also happen to the APC if similar problems are not tackled.

“In 2015, President Goodluck Jonathan and other PDP leaders sat in Abuja and chose the current National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, as the governorship candidate. But the people of Adamawa State voted for the candidate they preferred as governor,” he said.

He pointed out that President Tinubu is aware that Mustapha Salihu did not run for the Senate but for governor. “It was Abdulraheem Abbati who ran for the Senate in the Central Senatorial Zone. So, how can Salihu become the senatorial candidate in the zone?” he asked.

Jimeta insisted that the senatorial ticket should go to Yola North aspirant Abbati, stressing the need for fairness and justice.

“All the local government areas in the Central Senatorial Zone have had a senator: the late Senator Jibrin Aminu from Song Local Government Area, Senator Bello Tukur from Fufore Local Government Area, Senator Aishatu Binani from Yola South Local Government Area, Senator Abubakar Girei from Girei Local Government Area, and Senator Iyya Abbas, the current senator from Hong Local Government Area.

“Salihu and Senator Abbas are from the same local government area, so why is the APC being unfair to the people of Yola North? A few people are trying to stop Abbati from getting the ticket,” he said.

The group urged the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to ensure that the President's votes in Adamawa State are protected. They warned that they would mobilize against the party if the perceived unfairness in the Central Senatorial Zone continues.

“There will be two losers, the APC governorship candidate in Adamawa State and the President. To avoid a political setback, this issue needs to be sorted out now.

“Abbati was the returning officer for President Tinubu in Shelleng Local Government Area, even when some people against the APC in Adamawa were secretly working against him,” he stated.
