Nollywood's faith-based film Agbara Nla has made ₦354.5m at the Nigerian box office since it hit cinemas on October 1. This information comes from its distributor, Nile Entertainment.

The film is a remake of a 33-year-old Christian classic from Mount Zion. It also earned $120,660 in its opening weekend at selected cinemas in the UK and Canada.

Agbara Nla was co-produced by Mount Zion Film Productions, Sozo Films, and Circuits. It was distributed internationally in Europe with help from IFEC.

Nile Entertainment shared the box office numbers in a Tuesday statement. They announced that three of their films took the top three spots at the Nigerian weekend box office.

Agbara Nla led with ₦47.50m, followed by Street Fighter with ₦36.43m, and The Other Mummy with ₦8.67m. Together, these films made ₦92.61m, which is 58.9 percent of the weekend's total earnings. Nile Entertainment’s entire lineup accounted for 68 percent of the total.

The distributor said Agbara Nla’s success is due to a campaign that mixed nostalgia for the original film with efforts to attract new viewers.

"Released on October 1, Agbara Nla, a remake of the 33-year-old Christian film classic from Mount Zion, has grossed ₦354.5 million cumulatively at the Nigerian box office."

“The film’s return to cinemas was supported by a nostalgia-led campaign targeting both audiences familiar with the original and a new generation of viewers,” the statement explained.

The campaign involved engaging with the Mount Zion community, getting endorsements from church leaders, and online promotions. The company noted that these efforts brought in over ₦71m in advance ticket sales in just one day.

Nile Entertainment also mentioned that Agbara Nla set several records for Nollywood films in the UK. This includes the biggest Nollywood release of 2026, the biggest opening weekend, the highest pre-sales, and the biggest faith-based Nollywood film.

On the other hand, Street Fighter and The Other Mummy, both released on October 16, were promoted with campaigns designed for their specific audiences.

The distributor said these three films show how they market productions based on their genres and audience appeal.

"While Agbara Nla drew on decades of cultural recognition and an established faith-based audience, Street Fighter and The Other Mummy needed targeted engagement with communities linked to their genres," the statement noted.

Nile Entertainment’s General Manager, Nowe Segun-Ojo, commented on the company’s performance. He said it reflects their distribution strategy since starting in August 2024.

"Since starting operations in August 2024, we have focused on building a distribution business that understands the films it represents and the audiences they serve."

“The success of Agbara Nla, Street Fighter, and The Other Mummy shows the different audience engagement strategies we used for each release."

“Having three of our titles in the top three positions is a great milestone for a young company, and we aim to build on this success with our production and studio partners,” Segun-Ojo added.
