A Nigerian Air Force helicopter made a precautionary landing in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State. This happened after the helicopter finished a close air support mission against suspected kidnappers in Ogbadigbo Local Government Area.
The landing took place on Wednesday. The helicopter touched down on farmland in the Utur, Tse-Igboji area of Makurdi.
The Nigerian Air Force explained that the pilot decided to land as a safety measure while heading back to base from the operation. This was about 10 nautical miles from the airfield.
According to the Air Force, this decision was made as a professional precaution. It followed the safety rules and operational procedures that are in place after combat missions.
The Air Force reported that the operation was successful as it disrupted the activities of suspected kidnappers. It also helped surface forces move forward.
They confirmed that the helicopter returned safely to base after the operation.
