Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie is back at Bendel Insurance. He comes with a fresh drive and commitment as he aims to help the 2023 President’s Federation Cup champions find more success. This follows two seasons away from the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Obasogie has signed a one-year deal with the Benin Arsenal ahead of the 2026/27 NPFL season. This marks his return to the club where he became one of the standout goalkeepers in the league.

He first joined Bendel Insurance in 2019 and spent two seasons there after they returned to the NPFL in 2023. Then he went abroad to play for Ethiopian side Fasil Kenema during the 2024/25 season. He later moved to Tanzania and played for Singida Black Stars last season.

Now back in Benin, Obasogie is excited about continuing his journey with the club. He shared on Instagram, “Back to where part of my journey began.”

“Sometimes, life takes you away so you can grow, learn, and become stronger. Today, I’m grateful for the opportunity to return to my former team, not just as a player, but with more experience, hunger, and determination.

“I’m ready to give my all for the badge, the team, and the supporters. Back home, back to work. Let the journey continue.”

Obasogie was a key player for Bendel Insurance during the 2023 abridged NPFL season and the 2023/24 campaign. He showed great skill as a goalkeeper with his shot-stopping ability and consistency.

He helped Insurance achieve a remarkable 21-game unbeaten run in the league in 2023, recording eight clean sheets during the regular season. His efforts were crucial in the club’s first-ever President Federation Cup win that year.

Obasogie’s skill in saving penalties was vital for Insurance as they clinched their first major trophy in 43 years. They beat Enugu Rangers 1-0 in the 2023 Federation Cup final.

In the next season, he raised his game even higher by keeping 18 clean sheets in the 2023/24 NPFL season, which set a league record before he left for Ethiopia.

His return means Bendel Insurance now has a goalkeeper with a wealth of NPFL experience and a strong record in big matches.

Though Obasogie has not yet made his senior debut for Nigeria, his club performances have caught the attention of the national team. He has received several Super Eagles call-ups since November 2023.

He was also part of Nigeria’s squad that finished third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Now back in the NPFL, Obasogie hopes to find his best form with Bendel Insurance and use the 2026/27 season to push for his long-awaited Super Eagles debut.
