The Director-General of the Osun West Governorship Campaign Council for the All Progressives Congress, Dotun Babayemi, has urged people in the state to vote peacefully in the upcoming governorship election on August 15.

In a statement released on Sunday from his Media Office in Osogbo, Babayemi asked voters to support the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, for what he called a transformational change for Osun State.

He especially urged voters and all involved to avoid violence and the destruction of lives and properties during the election.

"The task before all of us is to choose a new governor and this we can do peacefully through our votes without maiming, killings or destroying property. This becomes instructive because regardless of our political differences, we remain members of the same family bonded by a common heritage called Osun State. The fact remains: elections will come and go, but our state will continue to remain," he said.

Babayemi pointed out that the costs of repairing damages after the election could be very high. He stressed that this situation could be avoided if everyone treated the election as a chance to choose, not a fight to win at all costs.

He promised that the APC candidate would bring people-focused programs that could help the state improve.

"Our candidate, Alhaji Oyebamiji, is ready and rearing to go. With the massive support of the people across the state, I am optimistic that he will triumph and our state will be good for it," Babayemi said.
