APC Members Call on Governor Mbah to Step In Over Executives' Removal

Some foundation members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu North Senatorial District have asked Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State to quickly step in regarding the alleged removal of certain party ward and local government executives in the area.

The group, known as G-30 Enugu North Senatorial Zone, made this request in a statement signed by Barth Ugwoke, a former APC director of Research, Strategy and Intelligence Matters, on Wednesday in Enugu.

The group also urged the governor to find out how and by whom these changes were made.

They claimed that some executives from the ward and local government areas, who came from the party’s congresses in March, had been removed and replaced without any explanation to the affected officials.

The statement said the removed executives were nominated through the foundation APC structure. This was part of a plan to bring together members from the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and the foundation APC into one united party in the state.

The group demanded that the rightful elected executives be returned to their positions where there are no valid resignations, disciplinary actions, or other constitutionally accepted reasons for their removal.

"Direct that any future changes to elected party structures be made strictly in accordance with the APC Constitution and applicable party procedures."

"Encourage the state party leadership to embrace consultation, fairness, and inclusiveness in dealing with the foundation APC members whose commitment and sacrifices helped sustain the party before the recent political changes."

"Proper integration of foundation members, without biased appointments and preserving the unity of the new APC," they appealed.

They mentioned that they were among those who welcomed the governor and other former PDP leaders into the APC.

"We welcomed this change believing that uniting the different political groups would create a stronger and more inclusive APC in Enugu State."

"We especially valued the plan to integrate the existing PDP structure with the foundation APC and other political groups."

"As we understood it, the 18 current PDP executives at the ward and local government levels were to keep their positions, while foundation APC members and former Labour Party members were to fill the remaining nine positions."

"We respectfully say that an elected party position should not be seen as an appointment that can be taken away or reassigned at the whim of individuals."

"If an elected official is said to have done something wrong or violated party rules, the correct disciplinary and constitutional steps should be followed, allowing the affected person a chance to respond."

"Indeed, the APC has previously announced suspensions and dissolutions of ward and local government executives when it cited specific allegations, investigations, and the formation of a caretaker arrangement."

"This shows the need to establish and communicate the reasons behind any major changes in party structures," the statement concluded.
