The Nigerian Army says its troops from Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have killed a terrorist, rescued three kidnapped victims, and destroyed a bandits' camp in Zamfara.
This information comes from an operational report shared with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Abuja.
The report mentions that the operation took place on June 12 in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas. This is part of the ongoing fight against banditry and other crimes.
According to the report, troops on a patrol covering Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa met with terrorists operating in Yanbuki District of Zurmi LGA.
The troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight. They managed to neutralize one terrorist, while the others ran away.
The report also says that the troops found rifles, four magazines loaded with bullets, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser, and an inner vest at the scene.
The troops kept chasing the fleeing terrorists and moved towards the Sabon Garin Daudawa community. The terrorists abandoned their camp when they saw the advancing troops.
Afterward, the troops cleared the area and destroyed the camp to stop the criminals from using it again.
The report added that during the clearance operations, the troops rescued three kidnapped victims and took them to safety.
The military has promised to keep up offensive operations in Zamfara and the wider North-West. They aim to dismantle terrorist and bandit groups and restore peace to the affected communities.
