Tolu Arokodare is making a strong case for a Super Eagles call-up with his fifth goal of the season. But it was not enough to stop Ajax from losing 3-1 to PSV at the Johan Cruijff Arena on Saturday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
PSV took the lead just four minutes into the match. Ivan Perisic sent a deep cross that Ruben van Bommel headed across for Ricardo Pepi to nod in from close range. This marks the third straight Eredivisie game where PSV has scored within the first 10 minutes.
Arokodare, who is on loan from Wolves, has had a good start at Ajax. He equalized in the 23rd minute with a low shot that bounced in off the far corner. This goal makes it four matches in a row that he has scored for the Dutch club.
PSV regained their lead just before halftime. Lutsharel Geertruida, on his debut for the club, volleyed in a goal from a corner kick. Esmir Bajraktarevic then secured the win with a low shot into the far corner in the second minute of stoppage time in the second half.
Ajax goalkeeper Matej Kovar made five saves during the game. The home side had 19 attempts compared to PSV’s 13 but could not find a way back into the match. Ajax has now gone five home games in the Eredivisie without a win and sits six points behind PSV, though they have a game in hand.
Arokodare last played for Nigeria in November 2025 during a World Cup play-off against DR Congo. He was not included in the squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
His current form could help him get back into Eric Chelle’s squad.
