Arsenal signs Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle

Arsenal has signed Brazil international midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United on a long-term deal. The club announced this on Saturday.

The 28-year-old joins Arsenal after spending four-and-a-half seasons at Newcastle. He made almost 200 appearances and was a big part of the team’s Carabao Cup win in 2025, as stated on the club's website.

This transfer ends weeks of rumors about Guimaraes’ future. Now, the Brazil international is officially an Arsenal player, according to PUNCH Online.

He also helped Newcastle reach the UEFA Champions League in two seasons.

Guimaraes started his professional career with Audax in Sao Paulo in 2015. He moved to Athletico Paranaense two years later.

At Athletico, he helped the team win four major trophies before heading to French club Lyon in January 2020.

After two seasons in Ligue 1, Guimaraes transferred to Newcastle in January 2022. He quickly became a regular player in the Premier League. His ability allows him to play as a defensive midfielder or in a box-to-box position.

For Brazil, Guimaraes has made 48 appearances. He was part of the team at the recent FIFA World Cup and also played at the Copa America.

He won a gold medal with Brazil at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta said Guimaraes will strengthen the club’s midfield. He will also bring more leadership and competition within the team.

“With Bruno joining us, we are further strengthening the heart of our team. As we have all seen, Bruno can play as a defensive midfielder and as a box-to-box player,” Berta said.

“He combines quality with quantity and has provided goals and assists for his team every year,” he added.

Berta mentioned that Guimaraes’ arrival would give manager Mikel Arteta more options to shape Arsenal’s style of play. It will also boost competition within the squad.

Guimaraes will wear the number 39 shirt and join his new teammates right away. Arsenal stated that the transfer is still subject to completing regulatory processes.
