Bauchi Police Investigate Officer's Resignation Over Salary Issues

The Bauchi State Police Command has started looking into why a police officer resigned. The officer, CPL Yusuf Aliyu, F/No. 524180, said he could not access his salary for two years.

CPL Aliyu announced his resignation on social media. He claimed he had not received his salary during this time.

The police command released a statement on Thursday. SP Nafi’u Habib, the Police Public Relations Officer, said they were aware of a letter from the officer circulating on different media.

Habib mentioned that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a thorough investigation into the officer's claims about his bank account.

He said initial findings showed that the officer's salary had been paid regularly by the police.

The PPRO explained that the officer faced issues due to a problem with his Bank Verification Number. The name on the BVN was different from the one on his salary account.

This mismatch led to restrictions on his account, stopping him from accessing his salary. Habib stated, "Preliminary findings indicate that the officer’s salary has been paid promptly and consistently by the police authorities.

The observed difficulty is attributable to a discrepancy in his Bank Verification Number, as the name linked to the BVN differs entirely from the name on his salary account, thereby resulting in the restriction."

The command showed concern about the officer's choice to go on social media to voice his complaints and announce his resignation. They believe he should have used the proper channels to address his issues.

The PPRO added, "The Command notes with concern that the officer resorted to the use of social media to ventilate his grievance and announce a purported resignation, rather than exploiting the established internal mechanisms for redress.

This conduct constitutes a clear violation of the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy and amounts to an attempt to discredit the Command and the Force at large."

Habib noted that the Commissioner of Police has assured officers that their welfare is a top priority. He quoted the CP saying, "No genuine complaint will be left unattended."

The PPRO also encouraged all personnel to follow the Force Social Media Policy. They should present their complaints through the right administrative channels for immediate attention.

The command is dedicated to maintaining discipline, professionalism, and the welfare of its officers while carrying out its duties.
