The Bayelsa State Police Command has warned cult groups and their supporters against attacks and revenge killings. They promised to increase efforts to stop cult-related violence in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, gave this warning on Monday. He told Divisional Police Officers and tactical commanders to boost patrols in areas at risk. They should act quickly on reliable information about planned cult fights, initiation events, and recruitment.

A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, said the police are also working closely with community leaders. This will help them spot rising tensions and stop violence before it happens.

The police commissioner cautioned cult groups planning attacks or revenge that the police will pursue them and their backers. He said there will be no untouchables in their fight against cultism. Anyone suspected of organizing, funding, or taking part in cult crimes will be investigated, no matter their status or power.

The statement added, "Where an attack occurs, officers will act quickly to secure the area, investigate those responsible, and prevent retaliatory violence."

It also mentioned that the Bayelsa State Secret Cults/Societies and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Law, 2012, which was updated in 2018, bans membership and support for secret cults. The law also sets criminal penalties for those convicted.

The command urged parents and guardians to warn their children against joining cults. Residents are encouraged to report any planned attacks, recruitment, or suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The police also warned against revenge attacks, hiding suspects, and spreading rumors that could increase violence. They asked the public to report any suspicious activities using their emergency numbers, 07034578208 and 09167322691.
