Benue APC Leaders Support Alia and Tinubu, Warn Against Divisions

Leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress in Benue State have thrown their weight behind the re-election of Governor Hyacinth Alia and President Bola Tinubu in 2027. They also urged party members to avoid actions that could harm the unity of the APC.

The stakeholders, part of the Concerned Benue APC Stakeholders and Strategic Alliance, shared their views at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.

Dr Dominic Alancha, the convener, spoke to the press. He said the APC is bigger than any single person, leader, candidate, or political group. He encouraged members to prioritize the party’s interests over personal disagreements.

He stated, “The APC is bigger than any individual, leader, aspirant or political group. Personal disagreements should not be allowed to take precedence over the collective interest of the party.”

Alancha admitted he had previously opposed Governor Alia’s re-election. But after thinking it through, he changed his mind, citing the greater good of the party.

He urged members with issues against the governor or party leadership to use the party's official channels for complaints, instead of actions that might weaken the party before the 2027 elections.

“Members who have grievances against the governor or the party leadership should utilise the recognised organs and internal mechanisms of the APC rather than engage in activities that could weaken the party ahead of the 2027 elections,” he added.

Alancha insisted that any claims of breaking the party’s rules should be handled by the right authorities through the proper channels, no matter the status of the people involved.

He said the group supports the Alia government, arguing that its work so far gives the governor a good chance for a second term. He also backed President Tinubu’s re-election, promising that members would rally support for both the President and the governor ahead of the 2027 elections.

The APC leaders called on party elders, leaders, and members in Benue to come together and resolve their issues through discussion and the party’s frameworks.

Alancha also urged the APC leadership to respect the party’s constitution. He asked that any necessary disciplinary actions be done fairly and according to set rules.

He encouraged Governor Alia to stay focused on good governance and the rollout of his administration's programs. He also told party members to concentrate on building support for the 2027 elections.

The group further asked members linked with various political factions to seek unity, warning against forming what they called a “rainbow coalition” that could threaten the party’s cohesion.

He concluded, “Our position is simple: the party must come first, Benue must come first, and all stakeholders should work towards strengthening the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
