Benue university student arrested for scalding classmate with hot water

The Police in Benue State have arrested a student from Fr Moses Adasu University. She is in her final year and is accused of pouring hot water on a fellow student.

The state police spokesperson, DSP Peter Aondongu, told reporters on Saturday that they have started looking into the fight between the two students.

He said, “Yes, it happened yesterday, Friday, August 28, 2026.

“From what I know, both students shared a room and had a disagreement. The suspect boiled water, added salt and pepper, then poured the hot mixture on the victim before locking her inside the room.

“After a while, people noticed what was happening and intervened to rescue the victim. She was taken to the hospital for treatment, while the suspect was arrested.

“I don’t have many details yet about what caused the fight, but I can confirm that it happened. I also understand that both are students of the Benue State University.”

Meanwhile, our correspondent learned that the suspect attacked a 200-level Political Science student named Rose during the disagreement.

The Students’ Union President, Akighirga Vitalis, visited the hospital and shared what he found out. He said Rose explained that her disagreement with the suspect, Felicia, escalated into the violent incident.

Vitalis mentioned that the two had been living together before personal issues started to affect their relationship.

While expressing his shock over the situation, Vitalis condemned the attack. He called it “a serious and unacceptable assault on the life and well-being of a fellow student.”

He added, “We are very concerned about this incident. The Students’ Union will follow this matter closely until justice is served.”

The union president promised that they would work with the right authorities and keep an eye on the investigation. They will also watch any disciplinary actions that may follow at the university.

Vitalis stated that if the claims against Felicia are proven, the Students’ Union would support appropriate punishments according to university rules, including expulsion if necessary.

“The Students’ Union will not accept violence or any actions that could harm another student,” Vitalis said.
