Brentford has secured the future of talented defender Michael Kayode. The Italy Under-21 star has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2032.
Brentford FC announced the deal on their website on Friday. The 21-year-old’s new contract lasts until the summer of 2032, with an option for one more year.
Kayode joined the Bees from Fiorentina on loan in January 2025. He later made the move permanent. Since arriving in England, he has impressed everyone.
The strong full-back has played 56 matches in all competitions. He played a big part in Brentford’s solid 2025/26 season, which ended with a ninth-place finish in the Premier League. He was also nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.
Brentford head coach Keith Andrews praised the young player’s growth.
“Michael had an amazing season last year. He showed everything good about us. His development has been really impressive.
“He’s someone we enjoy working with every day. He comes in with a great attitude and is a joy to coach.
“We’re very happy he wants to stay because we love having him here. This new contract is well-deserved,” Andrews said.
Kayode started his career in Italy. He had a good time at Serie D team Gozzano before joining Fiorentina.
He made his Serie A debut in 2023 and played regularly for Fiorentina, including in their journey to the UEFA Conference League final in 2024.
Since moving to West London, Kayode has quickly made his mark.
He scored his first goal for Brentford with a header against Wolves and played well in both league and cup matches.
As an Italy Under-21 international, he is seen as one of Europe’s top young right-backs.
The announcement got a lot of attention online, especially after Brentford shared the news on social media.
“Smart business from Brentford. Securing one of Europe’s top young right-backs for the long term is a big deal,” #TheFootballCntr tweeted.
Another user, #Ke_Travy, said, “Brentford giving Michael Kayode a deal until 2032 shows they know they have a gem and are not letting him go easily.”
Arsenal fan #Lobi_afc added, “We wanted him at Arsenal. We aren’t perfect on set pieces.” Liverpool supporter #LFC_Markinho expressed disappointment, saying, “That was my right back choice. No point now as they will want too much.”
#ogboche5 praised his ability on set pieces: “I know that Brentford is not letting him go anytime soon. His long throw-ins are amazing.”
This contract extension is a big win for Brentford. It keeps a key player despite interest from bigger clubs. Kayode’s commitment shows the club’s aim to build around young players who have adapted well to the Premier League.
