Nigerian comedian and actor Samuel "Broda Shaggi" Perry has shared a frightening experience that left him scared for his life. A stray bullet hit him, and he had to undergo surgery.

Broda Shaggi got shot in March while filming a comedy skit in Sango-Ota, Ogun State. The incident sent him to the hospital and forced him to stop appearing in public.

He vanished from social media for months, not posting any skits. Fans became worried about his health, and many Nigerians prayed for him online.

Now, at 33 years old, he has opened up. In a video on his YouTube channel on Wednesday, he explained that the injury was so serious he needed surgeries in Nigeria and abroad.

He said, "9th of March, 2026. It was a crazy day. A day in my life I wish never happened. Everything happened so fast that I barely could even understand what was happening around me. It was just a normal day, like a day I would go out for any brand activation until the devil decided to show up. We were done with the activation and already leaving. In fact, we were on the expressway. Traffic backed up because of the crowd, and all of a sudden, I heard a loud bang.

"Everywhere was silent. But I could still see people moving outside, people talking, but I couldn’t hear what they were saying. It was just total silence in the car. Then, I touched my hip and saw blood. That was when it dawned on me that I had been hit by a stray bullet. Emotions were high, I’m not going to lie. Things were running through my mind. Would this be my last day? You know, it was just a crazy day. A crazy day."

Broda Shaggi mentioned that he blacked out after getting shot and did not remember how he got to the hospital. He said he prayed hard for his life before doctors could help him. The hospital staff cut off his clothes to find the bullet wound and give him first aid.

"All that was in my mind was just to survive, to live through that moment because I didn’t want to die. I said, I didn’t want to die. Then, it got to that point where they said they had to take me to another hospital because they didn’t have enough equipment to handle me at that hospital. A lot was happening at once. I was sweating, I was holding my leg, I was seeing blood, and all I wanted to hear was a doctor telling me, ‘Samuel, you’ll be fine, you’ll be all right, you won’t die.’ Fortunately, we got to the next hospital.

"They were swift. They were very helpful. They immediately put me in the emergency room. They started treating the wound, and at that particular time, my mind started settling, and I knew that, okay, I would make it through this moment. So I was partially happy, but I still wanted to be sure that everything was okay. Minutes later, everything was calm. I couldn’t move my leg. Then I started worrying again, and it dawned on me that everything that happened could change my whole life. As a performer, as an artiste, I grew up dancing with my daddy," Broda Shaggi said.

He also shared that when he woke up after surgery, he was in terrible pain and could not move the leg that got shot. He felt emotional and began to question God, wondering why he had to suffer such pain. He struggled with his feelings and repeatedly asked God why he had to go through this.

But after asking God, he also thanked Him, realizing that God might have kept him alive for a reason or wanted him to rest.

"Since 2018 till date, I never rest. It’s always back-to-back. If I’m not writing, I’m shooting. If I’m not shooting, I’m in the studio making music. If I’m not making music, I’m travelling for something. So I consoled myself with that. Maybe it was time to rest. When I’m not doing the things I love doing most, I feel very useless. While I was in the hospital, I couldn’t act. I could not dance, nor sing, or do whatever I loved. So I went back to writing content again.

"I started working on a series for my YouTube because I knew that people had missed me a lot, and all they had seen on my YouTube was… I fell back, so… There were moments when I would see videos of my colleagues, laugh, and sometimes start to cry, because I wasn’t sure I would still be able to do all the things they were doing again. I couldn’t imagine myself not having dropped like six skits in a month."

Broda Shaggi went on to say that he traveled to Dubai for more surgery after the first one in Nigeria did not help him walk again.

He is still recovering and uses crutches. He spoke about a tough time when he could not move without crutches or put his injured leg on the ground. Though he can now walk and stand without crutches, he still needs them for support.

He explained, "I was examined by Doctor Anil. I was waiting to hear whatever I was going to say because the doctor in Nigeria already told me that the markers were not regulated yet; that’s why I couldn’t do the surgery. So he checked, examined me, and said the markers truly aren’t regulated, but based on what he’s saying, he can go ahead with the surgery.

"Him saying that gave me, like, so much hope. I felt really happy, and he said that after the surgery, the next day, I’ll be able to stand on my two feet. I prayed again. I’ve always seen surgeries to be a life-or-death matter, you know, so I made sure to put everything in God’s hands. Throughout this period, until now, one thing I keep saying is that I’m grateful because it could have been worse. It was a stray bullet, and it came this way to my hip."

Broda Shaggi said this experience has started a new chapter in his life. He wants his fans to celebrate his survival instead of feeling sorry for him.

The actor mentioned that surviving the stray bullet and the surgeries has made him appreciate God more. He believes God gave him another chance to live.

"Second chance. You should also be grateful to have Shaggy back on your screen because I’m coming up with exciting projects right now. Trust me. The things I’ve always wanted to do, the things I plan to do this year, that I’ve not been able to do for the past six, seven months. When you open Instagram, make sure you don’t block me because I’m coming in with a lot. Get ready."
