Dr. Auwal Abdullahi, an associate professor in the Department of Physiotherapy at Bayero University, Kano, has made it to the list of the World’s Top 2% Scientists.

The ranking sorts scientists into 20 fields and 174 sub-fields using the Science-Metrix classification system.
To be included, scientists must rank among the top 100,000 based on c-score, with or without self-citations, or reach a sub-field percentile of 2 percent or higher.
The World’s Top 2% Scientists ranking, created by Stanford University together with Elsevier, highlights leading researchers around the globe based on citation performance and other metrics from Scopus. Scopus is a large database for peer-reviewed literature.
The 2026 database was released by Elsevier on October 7, 2026. It is based on data from Scopus taken on August 1, 2026.
Abdullahi got his PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Antwerp in Belgium. He is ranked 3,204th out of 379,830 authors in the Neurology and Neurosurgery sub-field under Clinical Medicine.
His h-index is 16 and his hm-index is 3.94. This is his first time being included in the ranking.
Other scholars from BUK who made the list are Professor Abdulrazaq Garba Habib, Professor Mukhtar Ahmed Gadanya, and Dr. Sunusi Marwana Manladan.
Habib, from the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, is ranked 83rd out of 39,335 authors in the Tropical Medicine sub-field under Clinical Medicine.
His h-index is 11 and hm-index is 4.67. This is the first time he appears in the 2026 edition.
Gadanya, also from the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, is ranked 4,866th out of 360,081 authors in the General and Internal Medicine sub-field.
He has been recognized in the previous editions of 2025, 2024, 2021, and 2020.
Manladan, from the Faculty of Engineering, is ranked 6,002nd out of 330,896 authors in the Materials sub-field under Engineering.
His h-index is 13 and hm-index is 5.00. He has been included in the 2024, 2025, and 2026 editions.
