The Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is still ongoing. The spread of the virus has led to more reported cases and deaths.
As of 15 July 2026, the DRC has recorded a total of 2,124 confirmed cases and 828 deaths.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) shared this information in a statement on Friday.
The WHO also mentioned that German authorities found a Bundibugyo Ebola case in a US humanitarian worker. This worker was evacuated from the DRC on July 13.
“This is the second US citizen treated in Germany.”
In Uganda, there have been no new BVD cases since June 21, according to the WHO.
The last patient was discharged on 16 July after testing negative twice. This allows Uganda to start the required 42-day monitoring period before they can declare the outbreak over.
The WHO statement highlighted that health authorities in both the DRC and Uganda are still working hard with WHO and partners. They are focused on extensive outbreak response efforts, including monitoring the situation.
