The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is sending a 15-member team to Nigeria on Friday. They are coming for a final check of facilities before the 48th Ordinary General Assembly and the 2026 CAF Awards.
The team will look at preparations for both events. The General Assembly is set for 21 November at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. The CAF Awards will happen on 7 December at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Lagos.
This visit comes after an earlier inspection from 31 July to 4 August. During that time, CAF officials met with representatives from different agencies involved in organizing the events in the two cities.
The meetings were about coordination and communication to make sure both events run smoothly. They focused on agreements to help with the planning.
Christian Emeruwa, CAF’s Head of Safety and Security, will lead the delegation. They will arrive in Lagos on Friday afternoon.
In Lagos, the team plans to inspect the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Eko Hotel & Suites, and Murtala Muhammed International Airport. They will also meet with officials from the Lagos State Government.
In Abuja, the CAF team will check the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Transcorp Hilton Hotel, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. They will visit the chairman and director-general of the National Sports Commission as well.
A six-member team from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will join the CAF delegation. Ademola Olajire, the NFF's director of communications, will lead this team.
These visits are important to ensure everything is ready at the venues before the General Assembly and awards ceremony.
