Cape Verde goalkeeper Josimar Dias, known as Vozinha, has signed with Chilean football club Colo Colo after his great performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 40-year-old goalie stood out in the tournament, especially in matches against Spain, the eventual champions, and Argentina, the defending champions.
Though the transfer is not fully finalized, Colo Colo hinted at the signing with a photo showing Vozinha’s curly hair.
“Bienvenido. Welcome. Bem-vindo. We look forward to seeing you at the Monumental Stadium,” the club posted on its social media on Friday.
This news excited Colo Colo fans and Chilean football lovers, especially since the national team did not qualify for the World Cup for the third time in a row.
Reuters reported that Aníbal Mosa, president of Blanco y Negro, the company managing Colo Colo, confirmed Vozinha will travel to Chile soon to finish the move.
“Vozinha is going to be a Colo Colo player. In the next few days, he will travel to Chile, undergo the necessary medical examinations, and then be presented here at the Estadio Monumental,” Mosa said.
He mentioned that Vozinha’s performance at the World Cup earned him this opportunity, and the signing would also help the club's commercial interests.
Before the World Cup, Vozinha left the Portuguese second-tier club Chaves. He was voted into FIFA’s fan-selected World Cup Dream Team after helping Cape Verde, a first-time tournament participant, hold Spain to a goalless draw and pushing Argentina into extra time in the Round of 32.
The experienced goalkeeper led Cape Verde in their impressive World Cup debut. The team exited after losing 3-2 to Argentina in extra time in the Round of 32.
His achievements at the World Cup increased his fame globally, with his social media followers jumping from fewer than 50,000 before the tournament to nearly 29 million.
