A group called the Rivers Development Agenda has said that Kingsley Chinda’s recent switch from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress has cleared up questions about his eligibility for the APC governorship primary election in Rivers State.

The group made this known in a statement released in Port Harcourt on Wednesday. Godpower Duke, the spokesperson, signed the statement.

The RDA stated that Chinda’s official defection, which took effect on April 23, 2026, shows that he followed all legal and political steps needed before seeking the APC governorship ticket.

Chinda’s ability to take part in the APC primary had sparked some discussions among politicians. Some critics questioned if he had fully left the PDP before trying to contest under the ruling party.

But the group believes that this latest news has put the issue to rest.

“The latest developments have vindicated the group’s position that due process was followed and that Chinda’s participation in the APC governorship primaries followed every known legal requirement,” the statement said.

The group also insisted that Chinda’s defection supports its earlier claim that all proper procedures were followed for his participation in the APC governorship race.

They criticized those who questioned the former Minority Leader’s eligibility, saying that many objections were made without knowing all the facts.

According to the group, political disagreements should not turn into efforts to discredit people or weaken democratic institutions, especially without court decisions.

“Political debates should be conducted within the bounds of civility, facts, and respect for differing opinions.

“We urge political actors, commentators, stakeholders, and the public to focus on issue-based engagement and respect established institutions,” the statement added.

The organization also called on Nigerians, political players, and the media to be careful and let due process happen before making judgments on sensitive political issues.

It stressed that public discussions on legal and constitutional matters should be based on verified facts, sound reasoning, and a commitment to the collective interest of Rivers State and Nigeria.

Chinda is a well-known figure in Rivers politics. He has been a member of the House of Representatives for many terms and served as Minority Leader in the Ninth National Assembly. His recent move from the PDP to the APC is seen as a major political shift in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This defection comes as political changes continue in Rivers and the country. Parties and political figures are increasing consultations and making strategic plans for the upcoming elections. This has also sparked fresh debates about party loyalty, internal democracy, and the legal rules for joining party primaries.
