Youths in Cross River State have thrown their support behind President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu for a second term ahead of the 2027 elections.
This endorsement happened on Friday during the launch of a youth political support group called the Evidence Group in Ogoja Local Government Area.
The group aims to gather grassroots support for the President, the governor, and the All Progressives Congress (APC). They also set up their Ogoja working committee at the event.
Eyoma Bassey, the Director-General of the group, spoke at the launch. He said the movement would focus on mobilising support across campuses and villages in the state.
Bassey urged the new committee to start working on mobilising people in wards and polling units. He said all structures should be checked by the central leadership before they are announced.
He said, "The group is a youth-based support group that rallies support for Mr President, our Governor and the APC candidates. With this initiative, we are going to different campuses, villages, wards and polling units to mobilize people to vote for the APC."
He promised that the group would actively share the successes of Tinubu and Otu's administrations with voters. He added that the gathering showed that Cross River youths are ready to support the APC at both the state and federal levels.
“This gathering demonstrates the readiness of Cross River youths to mobilise support for the APC-led administration at both the state and federal levels. Therefore, we will remain proactive in selling the achievements of both President Tinubu and Governor Otu administrations to the people,” the DG said.
Bassey also urged young people in the state to come together and engage in governance. He mentioned that youth involvement is key to building democracy.
Jude Fingha, the Coordinator of the Ogoja chapter, also spoke up. He said they are set to ensure the APC wins in 2027. He stressed their “5 over 5” approach to secure victory for the APC at all levels in the state.
Fingha called the gathering a good political step to support a government he believes has done well. He encouraged youths in the state to support the APC peacefully and steer clear of violence and political intolerance.
“The entire purpose is to galvanise support once again and bring back the governor and others who are in line back to office by 2027,” he said.
Ms Precious Bessong, the Director of Women Mobilisation, asked women to lead the charge in rallying their families and communities for the APC.
Bessong said when women are empowered, it benefits the whole family and the nation. She encouraged them to spread the message of continuity.
