The Nigeria Customs Service at Tin Can Island Port has announced that it stopped two 40-foot containers filled with Delta-8 cannabis-infused cookies and gummies. These were hidden in cars belonging to importers at Tin Can Island Port, Lagos.

Oscar Ivara, the command’s Public Relations Officer, shared this news in a statement on Friday.

He mentioned that the contraband was intercepted thanks to the careful watch and cooperation between NCS officers and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Ivara gave more details about the interception, saying that on September 2, 2026, a 40-foot container with the number MSDU655132/0 was stopped at Tin Can Island Port. He said, “After a thorough 100 percent joint physical examination by both agencies, we found a total of 890 packs of Delta-8 cannabis-infused cookies and gummies, weighing 598.08 kilogrammes, along with two used vehicles, a 2008 Mercedes-Benz and a 2012 Nissan Infiniti.”

He also pointed out that on September 16, 2026, another 40-foot container, number SKU625643/6, was intercepted. A detailed check showed “1,207 packages of Cannabis indica weighing 603.75 kilogrammes, with an estimated street value of N3.62bn.”

Other items in the second container included two used Toyota Sienna vehicles, two used Toyota Corolla vehicles, and some used engine spare parts.

Ivara emphasized that hiding illegal drugs among vehicles and spare parts shows how determined smugglers are to use container cargo to move banned items.

He noted that across both containers, the total seizures added up to 1,201.83 kilogrammes of suspected drugs, with an estimated combined street value of N3.67bn.

Ivara described these seizures as part of the service’s strong commitment to stop the smuggling of illegal drugs through the country’s seaports. This effort aims to protect the health and safety of citizens.

He added that following established procedures and the commitment to working well with other agencies, the seized drugs will be handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation.
