Nigerian content creator Adebayo Ridwan, known as Bae U Barbie, has invited billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote to join his YouTube show, Curiosity Made Me Ask.
Bae U made the invitation while discussing Dangote's media appearances. He pointed out the need for Dangote to connect with younger Nigerians who are keen on his business and his upcoming investment plans.
The content creator remarked that many of Dangote's interviews were on platforms that younger audiences might not watch. Yet, these young people are interested in investing in his company and participating in its initial public offering.
"Most of the interviews we’ve seen you have been on platforms that my generation don’t watch," Bae U said.
He stressed that young Nigerians want to invest in Dangote's business. He wanted to give him a chance to reach a larger audience. "I’m not saying you should sack your media team. No, but you know, when you finish," he said, then asked when Dangote would come on his show.
In response, Dangote said young people are the future. He emphasized that older generations should share their experiences with the youth. "Honestly, the future that we have is actually you, the youth. We, our own generation, really, we have not really done very well for Nigeria and also for Africa. That’s the truth," he said.
Dangote pointed out that there is a need for discussions between older and younger generations to share experiences and talk about Nigeria's development. "So we need to sit down with some of you and discuss our own experience with you," he added.
He mentioned that many young Nigerians do not know much about some of the country’s past leaders and historical events. He used former President Olusegun Obasanjo as an example. He noted that younger Nigerians might recognize him more because he returned to power.
Bae U jumped in, saying, "Thanks to me. I gave him the platform, sir," likely referring to his own interview with Obasanjo.
Dangote agreed that younger audiences are important for him to connect with. "So really, you are right. Going forward, this sort of audience is the audience that we, somebody like me, should actually face," he said.
He added that young people have shown him support and respect, even when he travels abroad. Dangote mentioned that people around him sometimes try to stop the public from taking photos with him, but he prefers to allow it.
He recalled a moment from his youth when he and his grandfather met famous people in Washington and asked to take pictures with them. This experience shaped his willingness to take pictures with the public, despite his fame.
Dangote also dismissed claims that a photo of him shared online meant he was asking for more blessings. "I wasn’t begging for anything. What I was saying, I was just saying that, God, you have overblessed me," he said.
Dangote expressed that he is open to sitting down with younger people to share his experiences in a relaxed setting where they can ask questions about his journey. "We will come," he said, responding to the invite to appear on Curiosity Made Me Ask.
He stated that he wants the conversation to be open, allowing people to inquire about how he built his business and achieved his success.
