Dapper Music & Entertainment has been named Nigeria’s top homegrown music company for the first half of 2026. This is according to TurnTable Charts’ Mid-Year Market Share Report. The Lagos-based company captured 3.82 percent of Nigeria’s streaming market from January to June, putting it ahead of YBNL Nation, GIRAN Republic, Starboy Entertainment, and Dangbana Republik.
Despite this achievement, Dapper saw a significant drop in its market share compared to last year. Its share fell by 43.4 percent from 6.76 percent in the first half of 2025. Dapper also ranked fifth overall, trailing behind four international music companies: EMPIRE, Virgin Music, Warner Music Group, and Universal Music Group.
Market Breakdown
YBNL Nation came in second among Nigerian music companies, holding a 2.40 percent share, while GIRAN Republic followed with 1.99 percent. Starboy Entertainment was fourth with 1.50 percent, and Dangbana Republik rounded out the top five with 1.42 percent. The other companies in the Nigerian-owned top 10 included NSNV Inc., MAD Solutions, KeyQaad, To Your Ears Entertainment, and Mavin Records.
These ten companies together accounted for 17.29 percent of the market. This shows that local companies are making their mark even as international music groups continue to dominate. Dapper’s fifth-place ranking has not changed since the first quarter of 2026. Its market share increased from 2.50 percent in the fourth quarter of 2025 to 2.64 percent in the first quarter of 2026 before reaching 3.82 percent at mid-year.
About Dapper Music
Dapper Music & Entertainment was founded in 2018 by music executive Damilola “Dapper” Akinwunmi. It started as a music distribution and label-services company and later expanded into recording, publishing, live entertainment, and film.
The company has several subsidiaries, including Dapper Music & Entertainment, Dvpper Digital, Dapper Live, Dapper Films, and S94 Publishing. Dapper claims its distribution arm has released more than 2,000 songs and generated over one billion streams on Audiomack. Five albums distributed through its platform have each surpassed 100 million streams on the service.
Dapper has collaborated with many artists who are now well-known in Nigeria’s music scene. This includes Seyi Vibez, Shallipopi, T.I Blaze, and Balloranking. Seyi Vibez joined Dapper in 2021 and gained fame during his time with the label. He released projects like Billion Dollar Baby, Thy Kingdom Come, and NAHAMciaga.
Current Roster
Dapper’s current lineup features Balloranking, TML Vibez, Reeha, and Cazulee. TML Vibez’s debut album, A Street Kid’s Diary, released in December 2025, helped boost the company’s performance in the first quarter of 2026. He followed this up with A Street Kid’s Diary (Disk 2) on October 2. The album has features from Victony, Blaqbonez, Ayo Maff, Shoday, Lasmid, and Vory.
Balloranking also renewed his contract with Dapper in 2026 after working with the company since 2022. Both parties called the renewed agreement a long-term deal focused on artist development and career growth.
‘Started with Conviction’
Mr Akinwunmi shared his thoughts on the new ranking. He credited the company’s success to its artists, songwriters, producers, and team members. “Eight years ago, we started with a conviction that Nigerian music, built properly, artist-first and for the long term, could compete with anyone,” he said.
“To be recognized at the top of this list is a reflection of that work, and it belongs to every artist, writer, producer, and member of this team who has contributed to it. We are building for the next eight years, not celebrating the last.” Dapper’s ranking comes as competition increases among Nigerian music companies, including established labels and newer artist-led brands aiming for a bigger slice of the streaming market.
