A 55-year-old driver came out unhurt after a train hit his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos.
The accident involved a train going towards Agege and a Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT. The car got badly damaged in the crash.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said its officials and security personnel helped the driver and removed the damaged car from the tracks. This allowed the train to keep moving.
Even after clearing the wreck, traffic congestion stayed heavy around the PWD area following the accident.
LASTMA said they handed the damaged vehicle over to security personnel for an investigation into what caused the crash.
The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, praised the officials and security teams for their quick actions. He mentioned that their teamwork showed how important it is to work together during emergencies involving trains and roads.
He advised drivers to be careful when getting close to railway crossings and areas marked for train movement. Bakare-Oki warned drivers not to cross railway tracks when a train is coming or already moving. He said, “reckless disregard for railway safety protocols could cause devastating and irreversible consequences.”
LASTMA also urged road users to follow traffic rules and railway safety guidelines. The agency stressed that “the preservation of human life must remain paramount in all road-use decisions.” They added that driving responsibly and following safety instructions are key to avoiding accidents.
