Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, won against Tunisia 84-81 on Thursday. This was an important Group C match in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers held in Luanda, Angola.

This victory was a great start for the new head coach David Fizdale. It was his first competitive game in charge of the team.

D’Tigers began strong, leading Tunisia 23-21 in the first quarter. But Tunisia came back in the second quarter, winning it 23-20. This made the score even at halftime.

Nigeria took back control in the third quarter, winning it 21-19. They held on in the final quarter, finishing with a 20-18 score to secure the tough 84-81 win.

This win greatly improved Nigeria’s chances of moving forward in the race to qualify for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar.

D’Tigers will play again on Friday against Guinea. They will finish the qualifying window with a match against Rwanda on Sunday.

Winning both games would make Nigeria’s qualification chances even better.
