Governor Dapo Abiodun has said that new economic chances in Ogun East can come from industrial growth, airport projects, road improvements, energy options, and the planned Gateway Deep Sea Port. He believes these developments can change the area into a key economic center that will help Nigeria's economy as a whole.

Abiodun stated that these key projects will not only speed up economic progress in Ogun State but also boost Nigeria's maritime trade, industry, logistics, job creation, and investment opportunities.

The governor spoke during the weekend while welcoming Oladimeji Oresanya as the 19th president of Sagamu Club in Sagamu. He mentioned that the region's growing economic importance supports the call for a new state to be formed there.

He encouraged community leaders and other stakeholders to keep supporting the region's growth and work with the government to make the most of the new chances from its key location and growing economic infrastructure.

Ogun East is set to play a bigger role in Nigeria’s economic growth. Its closeness to Lagos, established industrial zones, growing transport links, and access to coastal resources provide a strong base for investment in many areas.

A big part of this new economic picture is the planned Gateway Deep Sea Port and Blue Marine Special Economic Zone in Ogun Waterside. These projects are expected to create jobs in maritime services, manufacturing, warehousing, shipping, export processing, and freight transport.

Beyond Ogun State, these projects could also boost Nigeria’s capacity for maritime trade, aid export-focused industries, attract foreign investment, and create jobs in various sectors of the economy.

The development of the port and its industrial zone could also create business opportunities for transport operators, manufacturers, farmers, construction firms, and small businesses across the country. The wider benefits will depend on how well these projects are carried out, the infrastructure available, and the ability to attract ongoing commercial activity.

The Gateway International Airport in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area, is another key asset for the region's economic growth. Better air connections can help with business trips, cargo transport, and investor access, working alongside road and sea transport to link Nigerian businesses with international markets.

The area's road network, which connects to Lagos and other business hubs, also offers chances to improve the movement of goods and people. The idea to change Ogere Park into a dry port, as suggested by former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Tunde Lemo, could further boost the region’s logistics and help with better freight distribution.

The growing energy sector also offers chances for industrial growth. Proposed projects linked to the OgunLNG initiative and oil opportunities in the region could, if they prove profitable and are implemented well, support energy-heavy industries, increase investment chances, and contribute to Nigeria's energy economy.

For Ogun State, the combined impact of these developments could mean more economic activity, more job opportunities, a stronger revenue base, and the rise of new business clusters. On a national level, the expected benefits include better industrial capacity, improved trade infrastructure, greater supply-chain opportunities, and more involvement of Nigerian businesses in regional and global trade.

Abiodun emphasized that the region's economic prospects highlight the need for collective efforts in promoting sustainable development. He urged community groups to work alongside government initiatives by investing in education, youth empowerment, and entrepreneurship.

He asked Oresanya and his team to focus on youth development, community growth, and the welfare of members, while also working closely with the state government to promote peace, security, education, and sustainable development.

The governor also encouraged the club to invest in young people's futures through scholarships, mentorship programs, and start-up funds for new entrepreneurs. He pointed out that lasting economic growth needs the involvement of government, community groups, and responsible citizens.
