EFCC gives back N84m to Edo businessman

The Benin office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has returned a draft of N84 million to a businessman named Ekhahon Abraham in Edo State.

The EFCC shared a statement on its X account on Friday. They said their operatives recovered the money from a woman named Anita Eborome.

The commission explained that Abraham was tricked out of this money by Eborome. She pretended to sell him a piece of land measuring 115ft by 135ft in a community in Edo State.

The statement said, “Abraham said after making payment, he built a fence around the land. But it was destroyed by a man who claimed to be the real owner.

“After this, he asked for his money back but Eborome refused to return it. She became hard to reach, so he was told to report to the Commission.

“During the investigation, it was found that Abraham sent the money to Eborome, but she used it for herself.”

While handing over the draft, the acting Zonal Director, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Sa’ad Hanafi, said the commission will keep doing its work properly. He added that they will not let fraudsters benefit from their crimes.
