The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has taken the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria, ALSCON Plc, to court for alleged money laundering involving N582.43 million.
The company faced the charges on Monday, October 12, 2026, before Justice O. A. Egwuatu at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The case is marked FHC/ABJ/CR/644/2025.
The EFCC shared this information in a statement. They also mentioned the company’s director, Zavyalov Dmitry, who is currently on the run.
The commission stated that ALSCON, a Designated Non-Financial Business and Profession, and its director reportedly did not report certain transfers from the company's account to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering. This is required under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act of 2022.
The transfers took place between March and July 2024. They included payments of N147.52 million, N156.03 million, N121.43 million, and N127.34 million to Udatson Nigeria.
Other transactions mentioned in the charges included N15.12 million paid to Urico Global Services in April 2024 and N15 million to Christopher Azogu in June 2024.
The EFCC claimed that both ALSCON and its director did not report these transactions in writing to SCUML as the law requires.
The first count stated that ALSCON and Dmitry, "sometime in March 2024 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, failed to report in writing to the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SCUML), a single transfer of the sum of N147,515,050.00" paid to Udatson Nigeria from the company's account.
The charge noted that this alleged offence violated sections of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act of 2022. It is punishable under Sections 11(3), 19(2)(b) and 22 of the Act.
The EFCC's lead counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, informed the court that the alleged offences are punishable under the mentioned sections of the law.
When the charges were read, ALSCON’s Acting Managing Director, Ime Monday Inyang, pleaded not guilty to all six counts on the company's behalf.
The company’s lawyer requested the court to dismiss the charges, arguing that the company is innocent of the accusations.
After the plea, Justice Egwuatu postponed the case until January 27, 2027, for the trial to begin.
