The Anambra State government has promised to ensure justice for a 16-year-old girl who was gang-raped by eight men, including her guardian. This incident happened in Nawfia community, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.

The state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Esther Onyekesi, made this statement when the victim, whose name is not revealed, visited her office in Awka on Thursday.

Onyekesi was in tears as she spoke about the case. She vowed to make sure that everyone involved in this terrible act faces the law. She wants this to serve as a warning to others.

The Commissioner showed strong emotion when the victim arrived at her office. She expressed deep anger over the trauma the teenager had suffered from adults who were meant to protect her.

A medical report given to the commissioner confirmed that the teenager is two months pregnant due to the repeated sexual assaults.

This case came to light after a Catholic priest from Nawfia reported it to the commissioner. He stepped in after hearing about the abuse.

Onyekesi said, "The state government condemned this act in strong terms and the ministry will ensure that all perpetrators in the dastardly act are brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others."

She added, "We express deep outrage over the level of trauma the young girl had endured at the hands of adults who were entrusted with her protection. This is unacceptable."

"We urge men to protect women and young girls, rather than take advantage of their vulnerability. The ministry assured the victim of her safety and pledged to follow the case diligently to ensure justice is served."

While sharing her story, the victim said her guardian had been assaulting her every night. Other men later joined in the attacks.

She said a "Good Samaritan" helped rescue her from the abusive situation last week. Some arrests were made before she was taken to the commissioner’s office for her safety.

The victim also mentioned that her guardian's wife suffers from a stroke and could not help her during the abuse.

The victim told the commissioner that police at the Nawfia Division had arrested two of the eight suspects. The other six are still on the run.

Reports say that the case is currently being handled at the Nawfia Police station.
