The Ekiti State Police have arrested three people for allegedly plotting, kidnapping, and attacking Rufus Olorunfemi, the chairman of Ikere-West Local Council Development Area, and one Funso Ajayi.
The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, has ordered a full investigation into the incident.
Sunday Abutu, the Police Public Relations Officer, said in a statement on Friday that "preliminary investigation revealed that on 3rd June, 2026 at about 9pm, three Hilux vehicles loaded with armed men in camouflage uniform allegedly accosted the LCDA chairman and one Funso Ajayi along Anoye Street, Ikere Ekiti and whisked them away.β
Abutu explained that the council chairman and Ajayi were taken to the home of a well-known politician where they were severely beaten before being released.
He added, βThree suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident and are currently being investigated. While effort is ongoing to arrest others who are at present at large, the suspects will be charged to court immediately after the investigation is concluded.β
The PPRO emphasized that the police would not rest until they get to the bottom of the case. He also warned citizens, especially political party supporters, against taking the law into their own hands and promoting violence.
Abutu said, βThe Command will continue to ensure safety and justice for all, fairness and rule of law, professionalism and respect for the rights of all citizens.β
