The Enugu State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency (ENSSAA) has announced that it will start removing unauthorized posters, billboards, political campaign materials, and other outdoor ads that lack approval from the Agency.
ENSSAA's General Manager, Francis Aninwike, said this on Thursday. The enforcement will cover the Enugu metropolis and all local government areas in the state. This move follows the ENSSAA Law of 2016, which regulates outdoor advertising and signage.
Mr Aninwike stated that no one, including political parties, candidates, organizations, or businesses, can put up political ads without first getting the necessary approval from the Agency.
“Political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders are advised to regularise their advertisements and obtain the necessary permits before displaying campaign materials in any part of the state,” he said.
The General Manager pointed out that too many unauthorized ads not only break the law but also ruin public spaces and harm the environment’s appearance.
He emphasized that the enforcement is not aimed at any person or political group. “The enforcement exercise is not targeted at any individual or political group. It is a routine regulatory action aimed at ensuring compliance with the law and maintaining a clean, orderly, and aesthetically pleasing environment,” Mr Aninwike stated.
To make sure the operation goes well, he mentioned that the Agency has arranged for armed police escorts for their teams. This operation will take place daily between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.
He urged the public to follow the law and to not disturb officials doing their jobs.
Mr Aninwike reaffirmed ENSSAA’s dedication to keeping order in the outdoor advertising sector and ensuring people follow the rules across the state.
