Enugu Government Encourages Residents to Use 112 Emergency Line

The Enugu State Government is calling on residents to make use of the 112 toll-free line for emergency security services across the state.

Vincent Onyeabor, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Peter Mbah on Security, made this request on Monday. He spoke to reporters while showing them around the Command-and-Control Centre in Enugu.

Mr Onyeabor explained that the state has adopted the National Emergency Number 112 as its main number for emergency security services.

He mentioned that there is a dedicated work station in the Command-and-Control Centre that answers 112 emergency calls every minute, 24 hours a day.

The officials at the 112 toll-free line work in shifts and ensure that any complaints are sent to the right authorities for quick action.

"The 112 toll-free line section can trigger action in case of a security emergency," he said.

"The section will pass on the information received to the Command-and-Control Centre in Enugu. They will use the state-wide fibre cameras to track the security or crime situation.

"The section can also send the same information to the nearest Distress Response Squad (DRS) vehicle to take action. Our people should take advantage of the 112 toll-free line because we want the calls to keep coming," he added.

Onyeabor noted that the state has seen an 80 percent drop in crime rates thanks to technology.

"This has been made possible through the state's big investment in operationalising the fibre-enabled surveillance cameras, Command-and-Control Centre, 112 toll-free line, drone systems, and mobile statewide DRS squad, among others."
