Former Liverpool and Bournemouth player Jordon Ibe has received a 12-month community order after admitting to assaulting his ex-girlfriend in south London.
On Friday, the BBC reported that the 30-year-old, who once played for England's Under-21 team, attacked Amie Mayson outside her home in Lambeth last December.
At Croydon Magistrates’ Court, the judge heard that Ibe pulled a braid from Mayson’s head during an argument. This left her with a bald patch.
Ibe had denied a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm back in March. But he later changed his plea to guilty.
In court on Friday, Ibe represented himself. He said he made "a serious mistake" and showed regret for what he did.
"I understand it is wrong. I am genuinely remorseful," he told the court.
"I’ve had to look at myself in the mirror. I cannot change what I did but will take responsibility for what I do next."
Magistrate Brij Kalia sentenced Ibe to a 12-month community order. This includes 80 hours of unpaid work and 27 days of rehabilitation activity.
He was also ordered to pay £764, which includes a £114 surcharge and £650 in court costs.
Ibe started his professional career at Wycombe Wanderers before joining Liverpool. He later played for Bournemouth and represented England’s Under-21 team.
