The Football Association is thinking about taking action after the Independent Commission found Manchester City broke Premier League financial rules.

The FA said the decision has serious effects on the integrity of football but chose not to comment further while the case between the Premier League and Manchester City is still going on.

In a statement released on Friday, the FA said it is carefully looking at the commission’s decision and its effects.

“The Independent Commission’s decision has significant implications for the integrity of the game. We are carefully considering the decision and its implications and will take action where appropriate.

“As the case between the Premier League and Manchester City Football Club is still ongoing, we do not plan to comment further at this time. We will, however, keep a close eye on developments.”

The FA’s statement came after an independent commission found Manchester City guilty of serious violations of the Premier League’s financial rules over nine seasons.

The Premier League said the commission found that City set up “sham” contracts with business partners, submitted false accounts, and hid the real state of its finances from auditors and football regulators.

The commission also found that the club significantly broke Premier League and UEFA spending limits and confirmed three out of four alleged violations regarding City’s cooperation with the Premier League’s investigation.

The Premier League has not yet decided on the penalties for these violations, while Manchester City can appeal the commission’s findings. The club insists it is innocent and plans to fight the decision.

The FA’s latest statement does not say what action it might take, mentioning only that it will act “where appropriate.”

The FA’s reaction came three days after the Premier League released the Commission’s findings on Tuesday. On the same day, Manchester City rejected the verdict, insisting it was “innocent of the accusations” and promising to pursue its appeal options.
