Portugal Football Federation president Pedro Proença has shown support for Cristiano Ronaldo. He believes Ronaldo can settle his disagreement with national team coach Jorge Jesus. Proença said Ronaldo is still a key player for the country, even after his recent suspension.
Proença spoke at a federation event in Funchal, Ronaldo's hometown. He emphasized Ronaldo's value to Portuguese football. "We are in the home of the greatest asset Portuguese football has ever produced: Cristiano Ronaldo, our captain," Proença said, according to ESPN.
He added, "Our captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, is one of our key pieces."
Ronaldo's relationship with coach Jesus has reportedly soured during the recent international break. This happened after they disagreed over how much he would play. The forward eventually left the national team camp. This led the federation to suspend him while they look into what happened.
This situation has raised concerns about Ronaldo's future with the national team. Despite this, Proença is optimistic that they can fix the problem.
Ronaldo has also shown he is ready to accept any punishment from the federation after they finish their review. Even with the disagreement, the former Real Madrid and Manchester United star has made it clear he wants to keep playing for Portugal at the international level.
