Some Nigerians on social media are saying they will boycott Davido’s three concerts in Lagos this December. This is after Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke backed President Bola Tinubu for a second term.

The backlash started when Mr Adeleke was named the Osun coordinator for Mr Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign. Many supporters were surprised because the governor is part of the Accord Party.

PREMIUM TIMES reported earlier that Mr Adeleke showed his support for the president during the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council event at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.

The governor said Mr Tinubu needed another four years to continue his administration’s economic reforms.

Three-night concert series

Davido shared on X that he will perform for three nights at the National Theatre in Lagos from December 17 to 19.

The concerts, called Oriadè: The Residency, will celebrate his return home and mark his 15 years in music.

According to the singer, he will perform songs from his latest album, Oriadè, as well as hits from his earlier works.

But some social media users criticized the announcement because of his uncle’s support for Mr Tinubu.

Some people promised not to buy tickets. Others jokingly told the singer to rely on family and the APC to fill the venue.

Old comments come back

The situation also brought back conversations about Davido’s past comments against the APC during the Osun governorship election.

In a previous post on X, the singer called APC supporters in Osun “enemies of progress.”

Some users pointed to this post and questioned the difference between Davido’s earlier views and his uncle’s choice to support the APC president.

Others accused the singer of being hypocritical for not speaking out while Mr Adeleke openly backed Mr Tinubu.

Many users criticized the Adeleke family. They said the governor’s decision ignores the struggles supporters faced during his campaign.

They remembered the violence, hardship, and losses some residents went through to help Mr Adeleke win. They believe his support for Mr Tinubu goes against those sacrifices.

But other users said people should separate Davido from his uncle’s political choices. They believe the singer should not be punished for a decision he did not make.

As of now, Davido has not publicly replied to the calls to boycott his concerts.
