The Nigerian government began the trial of more than 400 terrorism suspects on Monday at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The suspects are being presented in groups across several courtrooms at the court complex. Many regular cases are on hold so judges can focus on this trial.

Leading the prosecution is the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi. He is supported by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo. Both of them are Senior Advocates of Nigeria.

The Legal Aid Council of Nigeria is providing lawyers for those who cannot afford one.

The suspects are facing serious charges. These include terrorism, financing terrorism, and supporting insurgent activities.

John Tsoho, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, has assigned judges for this special hearing.

On Monday, PREMIUM TIMES noticed a strong security presence around the court complex. Soldiers blocked roads leading to the court and set up military vehicles in key areas. This heavy security was in place as the mass trial began.

This mass arraignment follows a similar one in April. During that trial, the Federal Government said it convicted 386 suspects on terrorism-related charges.
