FIFA launches new training programs for football leaders and players

FIFA has announced the fourth edition of its FIFA Diploma in Club Management and the second edition of the FIFA Players Executive Programme. Both programs will start in November 2026 and run until April 2028.

These 18-month initiatives aim to boost leadership and management skills in the football industry. They will bring together club executives, active and retired professional players, and coaches.

Participants will mix online learning with optional in-person sessions, club visits, and behind-the-scenes experiences at clubs worldwide.

In a post from FIFA’s website on Thursday, Ornella Desirée Bellia, FIFA’s Director of Professional Football Relations and Development, said the programs show FIFA’s commitment to supporting people who play important roles in football.

“The FIFA Diploma in Club Management and the FIFA Players Executive Programme reflect our commitment to supporting the key stakeholders of the game,” Bellia said.

She added that the programs will help participants learn from each other while developing skills for careers beyond the pitch.

“Through knowledge-sharing, practical learning, and a truly global network, we aim to equip club executives, players, and coaches with the tools to continue driving the professionalisation and growth of the game.”

The FIFA Diploma in Club Management targets club executives, along with former international players and coaches working in managerial roles.

The program covers six main areas: leadership and management, governance and legal matters, finance, marketing and communication, club operations and stadium management, and sporting strategy and youth academies. Graduates and their clubs also join the FIFA Club Management Network, which helps them share ideas and best practices across the global football community.

On the other hand, the FIFA Players Executive Programme is aimed specifically at active and retired professional players and coaches getting ready for leadership and executive positions.

Its five core areas include football management, physical and mental well-being, financial planning, personal branding and communication, and philanthropy.

FIFA Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer Gelson Fernandes said developing football needs strong leadership at the club level and more involvement from former players in sports administration.

“The development of football requires a collective approach, and for that we need strong and committed clubs, led by capable administrators with the right experience and ambition,” Fernandes said.

He also highlighted the importance of players’ experiences after they finish playing.

“Players are at the heart of the game, and we must do everything in our power to keep as many of them as possible involved in football beyond their playing careers. The game needs their experience, their knowledge, and their perspective.”

FIFA stated the programs have already built a global alumni community, with participants from 57 nationalities and 155 clubs across 55 countries. All six confederations have been represented among the participants.

The latest editions will continue FIFA’s efforts to develop football leadership within clubs and among players and coaches preparing to shape the game beyond the pitch.
