A fire has destroyed several shops at the Pumpum Nuri Water Site in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State. Traders lost property worth millions of naira in this incident.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Yobe State Command, shared this information in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement, from the command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Bala Garba, confirmed that many shops were affected by the fire.

The fire started around 11pm on Monday while many residents were inside their homes.

According to the statement, the fire broke out at the Pumpum Nuri Water Site and destroyed several shops before firefighters could bring it under control.

At this time, the cause of the fire is still unknown, as stated in the report.

"The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is yet to be determined," the statement said.

The NSCDC noted that this incident led to significant financial losses for traders and business owners whose shops were damaged.

They estimated that the losses run into millions of naira, and an assessment of the damage is still ongoing.

The corps mentioned that the fire was eventually controlled and confirmed that no lives were lost.

"No casualties were reported at the time of this report," the statement added.
