The Osun State Police have arrested five people connected to the killing of a 14-year-old boy, Olapade Ezekiel, during a shooting in Ilobu, Osun State.

The police shared this news on Friday through their Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi. They said investigations are still underway to find out what happened and the roles each suspect played.

The shooting took place on June 21, 2026, around 3.30pm at a palm-wine shop on Council Road, near the Irepodun Local Government Area headquarters in Ilobu.

Ezekiel’s father, Olugbenga Olapade, reported the incident to the Ilobu Police Division around 5pm on the same day. He said Ezekiel was at the shop with him and other customers when a group arrived in a Sienna bus and started shooting.

“The deceased was at the palm-wine shop with his parent and some customers when a group of persons allegedly arrived at the area in a Sienna bus and started shooting sporadically,” the police statement said.

Ezekiel got shot and later died. Another victim, Matthew John, known as Mofoto, also suffered a gunshot injury.

The police said they began investigations right away and chased after the suspects, who were moving around to avoid being caught. After some time, they arrested five suspects: Saheed Kareem, 32, also called Tanfiani; Ismail Yekeen, 24, known as Asumo Ayan; Abass Afeez, 32, called SS Abass; Salako Taofeek, 30, known as Fenuso; and Barrister Abdulrauf Ogunshola.

The police stated that the suspects admitted to being part of the crime. Further investigation revealed that Taofeek was the one who shot and killed the teenager.

“Investigation further reveals that Salako Taofeek, a.k.a. Fenuso, was identified by other suspects as the person that actually fired the shot that eventually killed the deceased,” the statement added.

The police mentioned that Taofeek also named a man called Alaagba, who is still on the run, as the one who owned the gun used in the shooting.

They said they are working hard to catch the suspect for possible prosecution. The command emphasized that they are handling the investigation professionally and fairly, noting that they will find out the truth based on evidence and investigative methods.

“The Command will rely on credible evidence, forensic findings and other investigative processes in determining the circumstances of the incident and the individual role of any of the people involved,” the statement said.
