The Oyo State Police Command confirmed on Sunday that they arrested four suspects related to the abduction of Busola, the sister of Bayo Adelabu, who is a governorship hopeful for the All Progressives Congress in 2027. The police also reported that two other suspects were killed during a rescue operation in Ibadan involving Busola and her two children.
During the operation, which took place on Saturday night for several hours in the Ayegun area of Oluyole Local Government Area, police recovered firearms, including a pump-action gun.
The victims were found in a three-bedroom bungalow where the suspects were hiding. The state Commissioner of Police, Oluwagbemiga Abimbola, took journalists on a tour of the scene in Ibadan on Sunday. He said, "The police acted on a tip-off, which eventually resulted in the rescuing of the victims."
It was also reported that there was a shootout during the operation. Two of the suspects were killed in the midnight raid. Besides the four suspects who were arrested, others managed to escape with gunshot wounds.
According to The PUNCH, Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, Adelabu's younger sister, and her 12-year-old twin sons were kidnapped early Wednesday morning in Ibadan. John-Paul, who is Adelabu’s biological sister, was taken along with her children at Elewura-Challenge in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
The armed attackers followed the victims' vehicle from their home and flagged them down at about 7:30 a.m. at the scene of the kidnapping.
Details on the ongoing investigation will follow.
