The family of Dotun Oladipo, a well-known journalist and publisher of The Eagle Online, has set 10 and 11 September for his funeral rites.

Mr Oladipo passed away on Tuesday in Lagos at the age of 56.

A statement from the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) on Friday shared details about the arrangements. A service of songs will take place at Daystar Church in Oregun, Ikeja, on Thursday, 10 September.

His burial service is scheduled for the same place on Friday, 11 September, and it will be followed by his interment.

Mr Oladipo served as the president of GOCOP from 2017 to 2021. He was among the key figures who helped shape the organization during its early days.

Danlami Nmodu, the current GOCOP President, praised the late publisher for his impact on online publishing in Nigeria. He said, “Dotun played an important role in the development of GOCOP. He led the Guild for four years at a time when there was still a lot of work to be done to establish online publishers as an important part of the media. His contribution will always be remembered.”

Mr Nmodu added that Mr Oladipo brought his vast experience in journalism and publishing to the guild's leadership. “Dotun understood journalism and he understood the business of publishing. He was passionate about the place of online media in Nigeria and he gave his time to the growth of the Guild. We are saddened by his passing,” he said.

Mr Oladipo started his career in traditional media before moving to online publishing, where he founded The Eagle Online.

He was also a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and the International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria.

His death has led to many tributes from media organizations, colleagues, and friends who have praised his contributions to journalism and the growth of Nigeria’s online publishing sector.
