The Gambia received two new generators on Monday. These generators have a combined capacity of 21 megawatts. They aim to help with the serious electricity crisis in the small West African country.

Since June, The Gambia has faced long power outages. Recently, these blackouts have worsened, especially during the hot season. This situation has led to protests from the people.

The generators, each with a capacity of 10.5 megawatts, came from China. They arrived at the port in Banjul, the capital.

Vice President Muhammed Jallow spoke about the new generators. He said, "The provision of the generators is part of the solutions to electricity challenges faced. The government wants to install the capacity, and part of the medium and long-term plan is to make sure that the issue of electricity is permanently fixed."

Gallo Saidy is the managing director of The Gambia’s National Water and Electricity Corporation. He said the generators will be set up and ready by the end of the month.

Saidy added, "The machines have never been used; the only thing they need is to be installed."
